of our world-class facilities

World-class race horses come from state-of-the-art facilities

Set in the picturesque location of Owning Hill near Piltown in County Kilkenny, Carriganóg Racing is headed up by Joseph O’Brien and is based in a yard that is steeped in racing history.

Gallops

The centrepiece of Carriganóg’s training facilities is the woodchip gallop that is seven furlongs (1400m) in length, six metres wide and rises over 80 metres from start to finish.

Horse Treadmill

We have numerous rubber-matted horse walkers attached to each yard which are used daily.

Equine Spa

Carriganóg Racing has two equine spas to aid with the recovery of any injuries or ailments that may occur while training or racing. The spa uses ice cold water mixed with Epsom salts to maximise recovery times.

Schooling

We have extensive schooling facilities for the horses ranging from baby hurdles and fences up to fully-specified racecourse-standard hurdles and fences. As well as having schooling facilities on grass, we also have an all-weather schooling strip with four hurdles and three fences. In addition, we occasionally take our horses away to school at racecourses.

Outdoor Arena & Warm-Up Area

The arenas allow for the warm up of all horses and allow us to start horses back exercising in a very controlled environment.

Washbays

Hot water wash bays are used to wash our horses down after exercise.

Turn-Out Paddocks

We have a large number of small fenced turn-out paddocks where our horses are regularly let out to relax when the weather permits it. We also have large paddocks that we like to let the horses have a pick of grass in after they work.
